Absolutely Ridiculous

I really really love Zumba. It is my yoga. When I boogie on down with all of the ladies at my gym in AZ, I feel energized and ready for the day.
Although there is a gym at my hotel, there are no classes. So, I got a 1 week pass to Crunch here in NYC. And wow, do they have classes.
You can do yoga suspended in the air from a hammock or do spin from a bike that is not fully attached to the floor (called hover ride). You can do gospel aerobics on Sundays in which a live gospel choir sings while you work out, or Glee Club where you dance to music from Glee and everyone in the class has to sing.
I have done 3 classes this week. One called Pound where you use drumsticks and dance. One called Aero dance where you do a class with a professional dancer, and one called LaBlast, created by a Dancing With The Stars pro. In all of these classes, I was the only new one. Also I was the only non struggling actor in the class. So, mostly, I looked like a complete idiot. The choreography was complicated and I could not do as many turns and leaps as were required. I tripped over my own feet and smashed into some very attractive young Latin folks. And I have never loved any classes more than these.
Looking ridiculous never bothers me if I’m having fun. I don’t really care what other people think if I think it’s hilarious.
The cast did a full run today of the show, and tomorrow they perform for Jerry Zaks. The excitement when he’s around is awesome. The Pugsleys now take turns each day doing the run of the show, and today Sam watched Jeremy perform, so Sam gets to do the show for Jerry tomorrow. He was so excited walking down the streets today, he was dancing and singing at the top of his lungs. He never cares who is looking at him. He is having a blast.
I went to see the movie The Impossible today. Which is not something I, of all people should have seen. As if I needed something new to worry about in my life. Jeremy’s mom, however, assured me there would be no tsunamis in Scranton. To her I say we’ll see. Those people on that vacation didn’t expect it either.
The problem with living in NY is that Sam wants to go to a Broadway show every night. Since I was able to talk him out of it tonight, we went to Madame Toussauds Wax Museum. Which is another place you end up looking like a complete fool. Putting your arms around wax people and posing for pics is so silly. And yet, I don’t mind because its fun. If you can’t laugh at yourself than you are taking yourself way too seriously.
Marilyn Monroe said “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and I’d rather be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
Me too, Marilyn. Me too.

I love how you are making every moment count. We need a picture of you in one of the classes. I would like to see the suspended bikes and you doing yoga upside down. Disney may be the happiest place on earth, but NY is the most unique place on earth. Enjoy your last few days.

  2. Love the blog! Hope to see you when your back in Phoenix!
